The ranking of the world top 100 universities in computer science in 2012 acknowledges the supremacy of North America, with the United States taking 51 and Canada taking 7 slots. However, the presence of Far East — China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea — reveals the growing presence room of the latter countries in the realm of hi-tech knowledge. Globally, North America takes 58 slots, Europe 20 and Asia and Pacific 17.
The weight of the smaller countries is once more made visible by the per capita index. The top 5 are Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland and the Netherlands, all of them with scores well above the median and the average (red line).
