North America leads the ranking of the world top 100 universities in the five knowledge fields in the chart : Natural Sciences and Mathematics (SCI), Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences (ENG), Life and Agriculture Sciences (LIFE), Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy (MED), and Social Science (SOC). It is in the latter field that American supremacy is the strongest, and the presence of the other regions is visibly the weakest.
Europe comes second in all fields except engineering, where it is outperformed by the Asia/Oceania region. The latter keeps a comparatively modest standing in the other four knowledge fields. Latin America and Africa do not place any institutions in the top 100 pot.
