Column chart showing the top 100 world-class universities in social sciences in 2010. The United States have 71 universities. The United Kingdom 9. Canada 7. Netherlands 4. Australia and Israel 2 each. Belgium, Denmark, Hong Kong, Norway and Switzerland have 1 each.

Social sciences are the priority field of interest of the US universities, and an area in which the latter have an unmistakable hegemony. Served by such a sizable and talented mill, uninterruptedly churning and refining a vast output of concepts, processes and instruments, US power circles manage to influence the world affairs in an imperial and unchallenged way.

Thus, not only the huge financial and economic world crisis of 2008 has been concocted in the work premises of the US banking and academic spheres, but also its entire foundations including financial practices, socio-economic doctrine, international legal and institutional frameworks, as well as the remedies to allegedly mitigate the terrible consequences of the crisis – rather passively accepted by the rest of the world – have all been devised by the same brains in the same places. A splendid case of arsonist turned fireman.
