Switzerland and the Netherlands command the per capita ranking. However the dispersion among the top ranked nations is significantly lower than in other disciplines. The number 1 is only 1.6 times the median (26.5 ÷ 16.3 = 1.6), against 6.6 times in natural sciences and mathematics, 3.1 in engineering or 3.3 in life sciences. This suggests less inequality in the level of higher education & research in the medicine and pharmaceutical field.
