US drone strikes in Pakistan : Strikes and casualties | Trend |

The cumulative lines describing the evolution of the United States drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004, based on the minimum estimates provided by the data source, give evidence that the CIA-led killing program, accomplished with the silent connivance of the Pakistani authorities, is not an exceptional and temporary effort to take down selected individual enemies, but an ongoing, self-perpetuating operation to kill and injure both combatant insurgents, and civilian bystanders alike, including women and children.

Initiated under the excuse of being the most incisive vehicle to disrupt the chain of command of al-Qaeda and of the Taliban hidden in Pakistan, the drone attacks, instead of losing momentum as it should be expected after the disbanding of al-Qaeda forces, and the assassination of Bin Laden, just kept rolling on, destroying more homes and schools, killing and maiming increasing numbers of people, and becoming a plain slaughtering exercise. U.S. drones have been targeting Pakistan, supposedly a U.S. ally with whom they are not at war, in total disregard of international humanitarian laws. Whatever the specious arguments construed by the legal advisers at Washington, such attacks resist any plausible justification, other than that of being an endeavor to impose on the peoples of the world a creeping, sticky, and murky rule of terror.
