The 21st and last stage of the 2013 Tour de France has been a rather fast one, but not one to disrupt the overall ranking. In terms of speed, the 2013 Tour has been the fastest since the one won by Armstrong — meanwhile deprived of all his Tour titles on charge of doping — in 2005. The overall speed reached by the stage winners is 40.82 km/h, and the average speed of all riders is 39.36 km/h. Although the 2013 Tour remains below the 2005 Tour historical benchmark of 41.65 km/h, the level of the performances may trigger further debate about sports ethics.
