On a semi log graph, income per capita was ahead of US debt per capita until 1991, the two ran roughly together until 2003, finally debt overtook and start distancing the per capita income line

Since 2004, US debt per capita runs faster than income, as shown by the same data plotted on a logarithmic scale. That may mean higher taxes and less money in the pocket of the average citizen in the not far away future.
